Afghanistan continues to be in turmoil ,having no respite whatsoever, the latest  assault (midnight11th August 2018) on the city of Ghazni, engulfing almost all city’s 19 districts ,was most planned lethal operation on Nationwide scale by Taliban.

The City of Ghazni ,less than 100 miles from the capital Kabul ,was literary burning ,as Taliban laid siege to the city in a surprise attack, pounding with bomb craters capturing the districts ,thereby ravaging the provincial capital city to shreds.

The figures show 2018 as the deadliest year of the war.

The battle of Ghazni did not come out of the blue.

Five of the US special forces teams along with 150 Afghan commands had left the City to fight ISISK—ISISKhorasan, an offshoot of Syrian based Terrorist group operating in Afghanistan since 2015,. ISISK had terrorised the people in Nangarhar provinces ,through executions , attacking Govt buildings , including a suicide bombings.

The Taliban took advantage of the absence of US special forces in the city of Ghazni and sneaked in stealthily with weapons and fighters with the connivance of some security guards guarding the city borders.

The Taliban insurgents attacked Govt buildings, destroyed Telecommunication center, burnt down the TV station in one go, thus bringing the throbbing City to a grinding halt.

The US special operations Command responded instantly by deploying 12 –man Green Beret Teams from Ist special Forces group along with Afghan Forces ,knowing well to take alternative longer route because of land mines being planted along the main  road to the Ghazni city.

The US and Afghan joint forces fought relentlessly for five consecutive days to inflict severe damages on the Taliban vehicles and fighters and occupied the make shift post on the outskirts of the city.

The Taliban fighters retreated and the fighting had died down significantly.

The Afghan Soldiers supported by American special forces aided by Fighters -16, MQ Reaper aerial drones fought   fiercely and routed the enemy completely within five days. The Afghan Forces and American special forces of joint operation pushed deeper into the city further to drive out the Taliban completely from the city areas occupied temporarily.

Nearly 226 Taliban insurgents were killed in the operation .

“Tactically, operationally and strategically, the Taliban achieved nothing with this failed attack except another eye-catching, but inconsequential headline,” said U.S. Army Lieut. Colonel Martin O’Donnell, spokesman for the U.S.-led international military coalition in Kabul

Brigadier General Dadan Lawang, the commander of the Afghan National Army’s 203rd Corps, said that 112 Afghan military and police were killed, and 56 were wounded.  Conclusion

Afghanistan is rattling with war for over two decades with little or no hope of peace.

The Trump administration’s long military strategy  defending the population areas ,leaving remote countryside to Taliban does not seem to be in tune with ground realties.

The President of Afghanistan Mr Ashraf Ghani on August 17 blamed Pakistan for the Ghazni attack by Taliban. “ the Taliban fighters are streaming back across Pakistan borders.” He said angrily looking at the devastations caused in the city of Ghazni.

The Taliban need to be annihilated for good.

The Afghanistan needs to seal borders completely and through diplomatic channels bring pressure on Pakistan through other Muslim friendly countries to desist from assisting Taliban .

Trump needs to seize the opportunity to usher peace to the ravaged country by providing technical  assistance in insulating borders to stop insurgents crossing over to Afghanistan apart from the current military partnership already in place.
