KASHMIR AT CROSS ROADS.

Kashmir continues to be at the cross roads facing the multilateral onslaught primarily from Pakistan sponsored militants and the inbreed local militants infested with the germ of defiance, targeting the state police posts in support of Pakistan militants who are determined to keep the valley burning without respite thus pushing Kashmiris towards the suicidal upsurge against India.

Indian Army in relentless combat ,defending the sovereignty of India from the full fledged undeterred Pakistan armed attacks from across the Indo- Pakistan borders to the killing and maiming of the civilians and Army personnel on Indian side ,without respite or remorse.

There is no let up in hostilities from Pakistan even after the new Prime Minister Imran Khan ,who was seen as harbinger of peace and tranquility between the two Nations.

In an interview with ANI on Tuesday 2nd January 2019 PM Narander Modi ji said “ India whether under UPA or NDA has never opposed the dialogue with Pakistan . It has been consistent policy of the country – not Modi government or Manmohan Singh government –that there should be dialogue on Issues. We only say one thing ; dialogue can not be in the middle of noise of bombs and guns.”

Pakistan has never been serious, sincere in building up  relationship with India, always playing politics of revenge and retribution.

The separators have successfully managed to keep the Kashmir conflict ticking by holding street protests ,occasionally unleashing bullets on a state Police soft targets thus pressurizing  the Central and state Government to pursue with the policy of repression and coercion against the protestors.

Four Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists including a Pakistani national were killed in an encounter in Rajpora village of Pulwama district on Saturday 29th December 2018. Eleven civilians also fell to the bullets in an encounter that ensued between joint team of the Army ,CRPF and Special Operations Group   launched cordon–search operations on the basis of intelligence reports ,the terrorists fired on the team leading to the retaliatory fire ,killing the terrorists.

Source Times of India

On Friday 28th December 2018 about a dozen masked men were reported to wave ISI flags of Islamic state terror group inside the Jamal Masjid in Srinagar soon after Hurriyat leader Mirage Umar Farooq addressed the congregation .

However the joint Resistance leadership comprising Syeed Ali shah Geelani , Mirwaz, and jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Mohammed Yasin Malik while condemning the act said on Saturday ” in the past some elements at the behest of certain agencies and handlers have indulged in hooliganism in and outside of Jama Masjid.”            Source Times of India

The alienation of people in the valley has widened to a great extent.

This alienation was seen in recent Srinagar by- poll when voter turnout was just 7.1 percent in contrast to assembly polls of 2014 where 65 percent voters came out for voting.

No attempt is being made by the Central government either to vouchsafe for people’s grievances to bring a modicum of peace in the battered valley.

Conclusions

The muscular lethal weaponry military policy of   the Centre government has yielded no positive results.

We have seen that the terrorism masters of Pakistan radicalized the youth of Kashmir and militancy as such showing no signs of let up in their attacks on our Army and Police posts.

In fact the policy of repression followed so far have added more fuel to the rise of gory violence in terms of men and materials

Thus we need concrete  strategy to douse the fire of vengeance.

The lives of even common peace loving Kashmiri Muslims are  miserable otherwise eager to seek peace and prosperity. .

They need to be forged into a combative peaceful force to educate the warring groups to come to terms with Central Authorities.

A difficult proposition but with motivation of offering better future , this could become a bonanza for one and all.

There is no second thought to the fact Kashmir needs democratic and non violent strategy to achieve people’s aspirations.

The strategy should be to find political solution within the framework of India’ s Constitution.

In fact no one tried sincerely to put their thoughts on this proposition seriously till date.

BJP had clear cut mandate to do that but they frittered away energy on non political solutions and thus lost the opportunity at least for the present.

Kashmiris need to be heard. The process of dialogue with Kashmiris must start and go on till peace returns to the valley.

Last but not the least the true spirit of free debates on all ranges of issues including re-settlement of Kashmiri pandits should be allowed.

Across India spectrum the  representation of political , business, educational bodies  should be allowed to be heard and debated freely with Kashmiris so that they feel part of their big democratic country.   This would provide platform to express freely on the much needed National integration with Kashmir and help Kashmiris to be heard  and sought for .

 Let us think positively.

ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS AND AFTERMATH

The recent five Assembly state elections have brought big discernible gains to the Congress Party , winning three main Hindi speaking states , thus breaking up BJP’s aura of invincibility significantly.

The Congress is back with a bang under its leader Rahul Gandhi ,hitherto an object of derision and mockery, has demonstrated his leadership acumen and established his political claim as a serious credible alternative face in Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Starting with Gujrat by fighting fierce election battle visa vis Mr Narender Modi and Amit shah on their home turf ,Rahul Gandhi strategized skillfully to regain power in Karnataka.

And now won with pride the three Hindi heartland states, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Contrary to BJP Rahul Gandhi has struck a right chord by maintaining an appreciable balance between old Congress stalwarts and the new emerging leaders giving thereby adequate roles to one and all to forge ahead in strengthening the Party from the grass roots.

He has been digging new popular leaders from the lower strata of the party to be groomed for bigger roles in the near future. These leaders are chosen from every state ,an important step in the direction of making Congress Party self reliant one.

The reasons for the BJP losing election in all the five state assemblies could be to some extent attributed to the pursuit of its divisive agenda ,but also largely to not providing jobs to the restless educated youths of the country.

The youths have been important vehicle for motivating voters in 2014 elections for supporting Narender Modi who had promised abundance of   jobs and “Ache Din” for the Nation .

The other reason could be constant acrimonious personalized attacks on Rahul Gandhi and Nehru Gandhi family by no other leader than Prime Minister Narender Modi himself.

These invectives made Rahul combative one but did not speak the language of hatred ,instead addressed himself  to the problems of farmers, unemployed and the other underdogs of economic disparity,  thus winning hearts and votes both.

The hateful chastisement unleashed on Rahul has in realty invoked sympathy for him in the public eye.And more so ever the public in general cannot dismiss , forget the great sacrifices and positive contributions made to the growth of the Nation by the great leaders like Nehru and Indira Gandhi.

Prime Minister Modi has not ,perhaps, understood the real psyche of the Indian voter who primarily supported him and aligned with BJP for its development commitment but were dismayed to find nothing concrete happening even after being in office for four and half years .

The large number of voters have no affinity for the Hindutva politics of Modiji. They have definitely shifted their support as their hopes of economical revival have been belied .and not adhered to .

Also promises made at the time of 2014 elections for bringing major positive transformation in the country administration have not been fulfilled.

For a large section of people the issues of good livelihood ,good governance ,affordable housing, good roads form the electoral decisions rather than religion or culture.

Democracy provides options to change and thus people choose the best from the alternatives to suit to the demands of the time and society.

Conclusions

To base the current results as any indication for 2019 elections may be overrated but it does open up new vistas for the Congress and opposition to pride upon to work for better results in  the coming Lok Sabha elections .

For BJP it is  dire need to save the 2014 support base rather than resting on Mr Modi’s popularity which in any case has been dented largely.

What it needs to do is to shun the war of attrition and rework on its Hindutva plank .

BJP needs to make leadership of Modiji as dominant issue and forge alliance with diverse political interests.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BREXIT. BY BRIJ KAUL

20181128_113002 MAY

THERESA MAY ADDRESSING  BRUSSEL SUMMIT

The British Prime Minister Theresa May had a turbulent time in unveiling  her Brexit deal compromise to the public last week.

Theresa May had to fight the political storm amidst the calls for her ouster from the members of her own party , facing the wrath of resignations of two of her cabinet Ministers as well.

The Union European leaders approved a landmark agreement on Britain’s exit from European union on Sunday .

British Prime Minister Theresa May will find it hard to sell the deal to her recalcitrant parliamentarians over the next two weeks — a huge responsibility to dispense off with , considering the intense opposition from her Conservative lawmakers having voiced towards the Brexit deal.

Looking to the vexed deal the new Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay is urging earnestly the colleagues to support the deal as May Theresa, British Prime Minister  fears “more division and uncertainty” in case law makers reject the hard fought deal.

Concluding the special summit in Brussels, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker called Sunday a “sad day.”

EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker further said “I don’t think that Britain will be a third country like other third countries.”

“There is, between us — something — which are the remainings of love,” he continued.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said with a regret  “the deal — the product of a year and a half of often grueling negotiations between Britain and the EU — was regrettable, but acceptable. I believe that nobody is winning. We are all losing because of the U.K. leaving,” Rutte said. “But given that context, this is a balanced outcome with no political winners.”

It took minutes for the leaders at Sunday’s summit in Brussels to endorse the  withdrawal ,  a withdrawal agreement that settled the divorce of Britain from the European Union. However the bill protects the rights of U.K and EU citizens affected by Brexit and ensures that the Irish border to be open.

Speaking at the Brussels Summit May said “ the British people don’t want to spend any more time arguing for Brexit.”

When asked to explain if she shared the sentiment, May said, “No: but I recognize that others do; I recognize that some European leaders are sad at this moment.”

The most difficult task to get her deal passed by the House of Commons , striking a defiant note she expressed “one of the most significant votes for many years”

She further clarified that despite knowing the fact that the MPs hold the key of her fate but she would “directly talk to the people of Britain” and would most likely start the campaign of selling deal to the public at large in a few day’s time.

The campaign would essentially revolve round explaining the merits of deal ,halting “vast annual payments roughly 350m Pounds a week“ to the EU, diverting the same to the health services. ,and also ending jurisdiction of the European Court of justice some of the many other advantages of the Brexit deal. May stressed the government’s keenness to address to domestic priorities .

She refused to rule out resigning if the deal was rejected by parliament next month concluding “it is not about me”

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt that the odds ends of the deal itself for smooth sailing are “ looking challenging “and could even collapse the government in case MPs reject it in the Parliament.

He told BBC : “It’s not possible to rule out anything, and that’s why all of us have to do is say, what do your constituents actually want in this situation, and we have to work out what’s in the national interest, and it’s all about the balance of risks. This isn’t a perfect deal for everyone, but does have a lot of what everyone wants.”

May insisted she would leave no stone unturned to see the Brexit deal through the Parliament and in an open “letter to the nation” released Sunday, May said she would be “campaigning with my heart and soul to win that vote and to deliver this Brexit deal, for the good of our United Kingdom and all of our people.”.

Conclusions

May is doing her best to sell the Brexit deal to the recalcitrant House of Commons with a choice to back the deal or face the economic crunch of crashing out of Europe without an adequate plan.

However pro Europeans argue if the European court confirms that Britain has right to stop the countdown and return to European Union.

Under the   Article 50 of the European Treaty any member state can declare its intention to quit the union , and follow Britain to quit the EU on 29th March 2018, after the voters backed the Brexit in Nationwide referendum on 29th March 2017.

So the dice is cast. Theresa May is on tenterhooks awaiting the results  anxiously next month.

THE POWER OF LEADERSHIP IN DEMOCRACY.

The power of right leadership in democracy is of paramount importance to entrench the roots deep down and propel the democratic principles into the body politics of a Nation.

India was fortunate having an array of dedicated visionary leaders ,the stellar ones like Mahatma Gandhi ,Jawaharlal Nehru ,Subhash Chander Bose, and Sardar Vallabhai Patel   among many others in both the pre and post Independent era.

Mahatma Gandhi knew well Pt Nehru was highly educated, young dynamic tallest political leader of India and made no bones about it by electing him as the Prime Minister on 15th August 1947,when India became independent from British yoke .

In 1946 When Britain was contemplating to give Independence to India ,the Congress and Muslim league jointly formed interim government with Nehru as Prime Minister . Patel was home minister and Liaquat Ali Khan was Finance Minister.

So Nehru was undisputed leader of Nation even before Independence.

The Congress Party was vehemently opposed to the idea of Partition of India . But Jinnah’s Direct Action Day in 1946 sparked communal killings across the country and some of the Congress leaders thought that giving Muslims the Pakistan they wanted might finally bring communal peace .

Thus the seed of Partition got germinated in the Congress leaders across the Nation and all top Congress leaders including the stalwarts like Patel, Mahatma Gandhi agreed for the Partition of the Country .

The myth that only Nehru wanted Partition is not correct at all.

The current vested interest political leaders are deliberatively spreading tirade against Nehru in singling out him solely responsible for the inevitable Partition to meet their personal ends.

Whereas Subash Bose laid foundation of Indian Army, Nehru and Patel worked assiduously both individually and collectively to unite India ,in view of its diverse structure cultural and a plethora of languages , by laying a firm democratic foundation.to work with.

Jawaharlal Nehru strengthened it by winning the first three General Elections of independent India decisively and put India on the road of progress and prosperity.

Nehru , though undisputed leader, was a true democrat and gave full freedom to his cabinet ministers and treated them with respect and equality. He even went further to work with Opposition leaders taking their cognizance on the issues of mutual interest and concerning the future of the country.

India’s most powerful leader Indira Gandhi earning the epithet of Goddess Durga following great victory of 1971 war with Pakistan . She dismembered Pakistan into two Nations Bangladesh and Pakistan. bruising further its pride by surrendering 90,000 soldiers to Indian Army.

However she became autocratic .

In democracy it is always dangerous to eulogize a person to deific stature, thereby allowing him to wield power leading ultimately to the authoritarian rule, harmful to the pluralism inclusive society .

She in turn imposed Emergency thereby breaking the Constitutional norms.

PM Narender Modi is probably only one popular leader to win with clear massive majority in 2014 from BJP Party and thus assert himself as Prominent and promising one to lead the Nation .

But the massive popular support has propelled Mr Modi to follow the leader syndrome and thus converted the cabinet ministers into ‘yes minister ‘ cheer leaders.

The ministers in strict sense have become subordinates and the Central Govt currently veered to Modi .and he is decrying deriding the opponents using all fair and foul means to cling to power.

Instead of using massive support and mandate of 2014, to ensure good governance ,he lost the impetus to forge ahead with concrete Programmes that could have made difference to the national economic Growth resulting in providing jobs to the youth of the country.

The ambitious programmes like Digital India ,Make in India ,Skill India ,start up India ,stand up India , have been started with great fanfare with a hope to leverage the power of technology to benefit the lives of ordinary Indians.

But in reality except Digital India becoming a mass movement to a great extent , all other programmes have been a mere slogans with nobody hearing much about them any more.

The other good talking programmes are Swatch Bharat , C 7.5 crore toilets constructed across the country, 3.5 crores Ujjwala LPG gas connections, globally recognized JAM trinity ( 31 crore Jan Dhan Bank accounts ,121 crore mobile phones and 120 crore Aadhar IDs).

People feel disenchanted with promises made not fulfilled and democracy provides people to look for other options.

By concentrating powers into his hands PM Modi has become the story, theme, and subject matter of Indian politics , thereby giving ample opportunity and reason to Rahul Gandhi to attack Modi singularly.

This one point attack has been successful to tear apart the Govt policies as the BJP with all ministers attacking Rahul personally .This works well for the congress president to be in news all the time.

Rahul’s noise on Rafale has finally made the Govt to submit documents to the Court.

The opposition has started getting to forge an alliance with Telgu Desam leader CM Chander Babu Naidu ,taking the initiative to make disperate leaders of different political parties join hands to defeat BJP in 2019 General elections.

Conclusions

For sustenance of healthy stable Democracy the leaders require to be true democrats pledged to the welfare of all citizens irrespective of caste creed and colour. Only such leaders can propel and instil the democratic principles and forge ahead towards prosperity of the Nation.

NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE WORLD AROUND .

GREEN BHUTAN

20181021_085342
THE GREEN BEAUTIFUL BHUTAN

Carpeted in forest nestled high up in the eastern Himalayas BHUTAN is one of the the greenest countries in the world.

Amazing Facts;

The forests cover 70 percent of the kingdom and

absorb around three times more carbon dioxide than the country of around 750,000 people emits.

Consequently Bhutan charges tourists $250 per day to avoid mass tourism in order to sustain green environment.

Bhutan is also called as Shangri-La for its magnificent mountainous beauty.

Bhutan , encircled by china one side and India on the other , a tiny kingdom of 14,800 square miles just the size of Maryland.

Bhutan is carbon negative because its work force  is largely engaged in Forestry or agriculture.

By 2020Agriculture is slated to be entirely organic .

By 2030, the country hopes to recycle all of its waste. Bhutan’s constitution stipulates for Gross National Happiness and not bound by economic growth alone.

Taking a cue

China and India jostling, both ,with climate change pollution and what not, can take cue from tiny wise Bhutan and thus increase the forest land following as an compulsory administrative measure with lucrative financial incentives to start with.

Pollution is largely man made problem and needs adequate solutions to wriggle it out to a great extent.

Bhutan’s commendable leadership is laudable as they refuse to budge from the commitment of keeping the kingdom Carbon negative.

The people of this so called Utopian country want democracy for the welfare of society.

The country held ist round of voting in September 2018 and final on 18th October 2018.

The first round results have shocked voters by voting out the party in power and regulating the unknown DRUK NYAMRUP TSHONGE Party  to the forefront runners status.

The youth unemployment ,corruption, abysmal poverty dampened the spirits of people and want  Monarch  to cede power to Prime Minister and Parliament.

The women are battling for the menace of sexism rampant in Bhutanese society.

Women Representation

Out of 188 candidates who fought the primary round of third democratic elections only 18 in September 2018 ,only 18 are women candidates. Women want more of its representatives to be in the Parliament to vouchsafe for their problems of leading safe and respectable lives in sex driven society.

The Bhutanese government through a consultative process, tried to push for 20 percent quota for women but failed to muster support.

 India Bhutan Relations

India ,unfortunately , in july 2013 resorted to withdraw all subsidies on the cooking gas and Kerosene to Bhutan, arguably the unquestioned ally

among the neighbours, thus creating huge crisis in the kingdom and impinging upon the bilateral relations severely.

The cut was seen as a result of Bhutan’s cosying up to Beijing.

However following the visit of the king Jigme Wanchuk, to New Delhi recently, the Govt of India has extended credit facilities to the tune of Rs 1000 crores .

The bilateral relations, since, then has been once again excellent one.

AFGHANISTAN CONFLICT

Nearly 170 Afghans killed  and many more injured in poll-related violence on Saturday ,20th October 2018.

Most of the killings were in Kabul in multiple explosions , as per acting health Ministry spokesman Mohibullah Zeer.

Amidst the threat from Taliban the voting has been extended to Sunday in 360 polling centres across the country.

Despite the threat of violence large number of voters turned up at the polling centres to caste their votes.

Seventeen years ago, President George W. Bush sent American troops to fight out permanently the Islamic Jehadis.

US diplomats are currently holding high level talks with Taliban to end the bitter long fighting .

America desires to keep its hold on Afghanistan .

Taliban wants America and other allies to quit the country so that they could rule the country accordingly.

Afghans would like to have full say in running the country affairs without any hindrance from outside either from Washington or elsewhere.

But US argues that American presence is needed to ensure that Taliban doesnot fail to follow through the deal provisions clause by clause after negotiating a deal with American negotiators.

American point of view is valid as lookingto the deadly attack carried out by Taliban on Provincial governor’s compound in Kandhar on Thursday. This deadly attack killed   not only Kandhar police chief Abdul Raziq but also tried to target the US Army. General chief Austin Miller who escaped unhurt by the providence of nature.

Conclusion

But peace seems inevitable as both sides are tired of fighting the unending long war.

The UN disclosed in its survey that atleast 8000 Afghan

Civilians have been killed fighting through September this year alone.

Let us hope sanity rules the warring groups finally and both work assiduously for much awaited  indestructible durable peace bringing tranquility to the Afghans at last.

EMPOWERMENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS TO GIRLS OF THE WORLD.

11th October 2012 was declared and inaugurated as International Day of Girls by the United General Assembly and is being celebrated with great fervour to instil confidence and empower the Girls of the world with education and skills of employment .

The situation as on today we need to know and contribute our mite to improve the prospects of girls power to an independent respectable lives.

A / 98 million girls drop out of secondary schools.

B/ About 12 million girls are married before the age of 18 every year.

C/ Approximately 6,500 to 7000 adolescent girls (aged 15 to 24) get infected with HIV every week.

Hence looking at the above statistics available, suggests the grave situation, and needs concrete steps to   arrest the rot and improvise on continuous basis till the problem is completely eradicated.

According to the United Nations the day “ aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges the girls face while promoting girls’ empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights.”

Global Girls Alliance

Yesterday on International Day of the Girl, Michelle Obama said “ I’m proud to announce the Obama Foundation’s launch of the Global Girls Alliance, an effort to empower adolescent girls around the world through education, so that they can support their families, communities, and countries.

20181012_150446.jpg

Michille  Obama with Girls of the world

When adolescent girls around the world are educated, amazing things start to happen. Poverty goes down, economies grow, families get stronger, babies are born healthier, and the world, by all accounts, gets better. But progress doesn’t happen overnight.

That is why the Obama Foundation’s Global Girls Alliance program is teaming up with GoFundMe to encourage people around the world to take action in support of girls education. We are providing a platform for grassroots leaders to seek funding for projects that can break down the physical, cultural, and financial walls that keep adolescent girls from getting an education and fulfilling their potential.”

A skilled Girl Force , one more Independant Organization,

is working hard to bring together partners and stakeholders together to absolve most pressing needs to train the girls for right skills to take up gainful employment .

This is stupendous task as 600 million adolescent girls will walk into the world’s workforce in the next 10 years. With 90% of those from the developing countries ,where low pay ,exploitation and human trafficking are some of the other challenges to be addressed to simultaneously.

The Govt Of India under illustrous PM Mr Nrender Modi has ,for instance ,started an ambitious campaign “Beti Bachao Beti Padav” a few years back to empower girls with education and safe environment to be economically independent and thus leading progressive lives to build a prosperous strong nation.

Girls are moving neck to neck to men in almost all walks of life to alleviate the poverty of the masses.

It is worth mentioning here that India as Country has been fighting the menace of conservative coercive social dogmatic male dominated society to enforce girls and boys both for free education through different Government Schemes since Independence itself resulting in the upliftment of vast educated women work force in all sections of society.

It is better to quote our great leader ISTPrime Minister Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru , who revered women power as essential to propel the society and Nation to great  heights.

Pt Nehru said ” the condition of Nation can be explained by looking at the status of women /girl.”

Conclusions

Every individual across the world can make a difference by associating one way or the other to embolden the spirit of Girls’ power to make a better beautiful world.

Some of the following actions could be thought of.

  1. With Social media on the upsurge one can easilyassociate with accounts of Girls saving organisations .

One prominent organization is Global Fund For Women    ,an organization investing in resources in women oriented movements. One can contribute monetarily or otherwise to work in different schemes for educatingskill improvement of Girls.

  1. .Relate the amazing great stories of your family women members to the next generation to induce and motivate them n for doing better in theirlives. . Quote their bright achievements as examples to excel. Grandmothers stories can be great tranquilisers.
  2. Yank out your old albums and frame some outstanding photos of your illustrious forefathers to apprise your girls boys of their valour stories.
  3. Be a philontropist.

Always be sporty to donate a small sum for the welfare of Girls and women organizations of world repute. Your small mite may contribute to the fortunes of many.

  1. Make a resolution to fight for the safety of Girls and women from sexual beasts. Rape is a great menace in the society of the world ,why not to address it seriously through by highlighting the causes at the national international forums.

According to the recent research from the university of Essex ,the more you nag your daughter the more successful she  will be in her life.

The nagging from primary parents, Father or Mother only can be more effective to achieve successful results .Expressing high expectations leads to more successful careers.

So be a positive Parent.

THE PARADISE LOST

The turquoise shimmering waters ,snow capped mountains ,dense forests and glorious flora and fauna of Kashmir –– the Paradise lost to Kashmiri Pandits, who were victims of ethnic cleansing from the valley by the Pakistani terrorists aided and abetted by pro Pakistani elements within the valley ,killing more than thousand of innocent Pandits way back in Dec 1989 and early 1990.

The phenomenon is repugnant of grave atrocities inflicting gruesome violence upon the women, thereby bruising and hurting the pride of the community .

The Kashmiri Pandits were left with no option than to flee the valley to become refugees in their own country.

In Jammu ,the Pandits were not welcome .

The locals feared that being upright and intelligent community ,they would usurp the jobs especially government ones of the locals.

When some migrant medical students ,numbering around85 , were re-admitted in the Jammu Medical college ,the locals grouped together and went on a flash strike supported by BJP. The strike lasted for two weeks.

The BJP local leaders declared that Kashmiri Pandits could live in Jammu as “Guests” only and issued a warning to the then Union Home Minister Mufti Sayeed and the Governor Mr G.C Saxena against the further influx of Kashmiri Pandits into Jammu.

Majority of Kashmiri pandits eventually settled in all Indian states .

However Maharashtra ,Karnataka were two states to welcome Kashmiri pandits offering admissions in professional colleges and with basic facilities for resettlement.

Delhi and other adjoining states followed the suite to receive and provide means to settle Pandits in large numbers.

Now after nearly 30 years of wilderness ,majority of  Pandits believe that their birthland ,Kashmir, a paradise , is lost for ever.

The National Political Parties are playing blame game and not paying any heed to the question of rehabilitation of Pandits in the valley.

The Parties like National Conference and PDP are in doldrums for their vacillating policy on the Kashmir impasse.

The move to boycott the Urban and Panchayat polls by both PDP and National Conference is defeat for both ,the centre and the main regional parties ,as the ultimate goal lies in fostering better relationship between Srinagar and New Delhi.

In absence of the main leaders ,Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti ,the centre hopes that new leaders may emerge from the grass roots to challenge the hegemony of these leaders.

A large number of Kashmiri Pandits in sheer desperation ,bitterness , and harbouring a feeling of being left out by the Congress in the hour of distress, inched towards BJP.

Reposing faith in the rheotrics of Prime Minister Narender Modi who addressed  a rally in Samba in December 2014,pledging to the settlement of Pandits in the valley.

There afterwards  Prime Minister Narender Modiji and his entourage Mr Amit Shah

maintained a stoic silence on the issue todate.

Consequently Pandits feel cheated and have no recourse to give vent to their feelings.

By now it must be clear  to all  that going back on the promises pledges made  as hardly surprising.

The Pandits do not count a vote bank for any Political Party as such. The number is so minuscule to attract any attention.

The question of rehabilitation was an easy trap to wean away Pandits from the strong fold of Congress.

It is foregone conclusion that BJP is going to use the same rhetoric for Pandits in the 2019 elections. as well.

The exodus Pandit Card is being used by the Central Govt to browbeat Pakistan in International forums like UN ,SAARC, Etc. and nothing else.

Conclusion;

 Pandit’s Dilemma

Much water has flown under the seven Jhelum bridges since 1989/90.

Apparently under the prevailing circumtances the situation is not conducive for the Pandits to go back to the valley.

All of us know that the situation is worse than what was in 1990.

The youth of Kashmir being radicalized by the masterminds of terrorism in Pakistan is posing a grave threat to the peace in the valley. The policy of repression followed by the Govt of India may have added more fuel to the rise of violence and need concrete  strategy to douse the fire of vengeance.

The lives of even reticent peace loving Kashmiri Muslim are  miserable who  otherwise are eager to seek peace and tranquility . They need to muster courage to stand up against the militants and help the Central authorities to thwart the   acts of violence.

Due to lack of definite policy, strategy The militants across the border have been killing both Army and the J&K police personnel in large numbers every day.

The recent gruesome killing of Policemen, Nissar Ahmad, and SPOs Firdous Ahmad, and Kulwant singh in Batagund and adjoining areas of Shopian

has shaken the 1.2 lakh strong contingent of Jammu and Kashmir police force, with six SPOs announcing their resignations on social media.

The abrogation of Article 370 may prompt Kashmiri Pandits to move to the valley for good.

But who has the courage and determination to do it.

The BJP, being in opposition hollered from the roof tops for doing away with the Article 370 ,but now in power for more than 4 years lacks the lion’s courage to implement it.

The muscular military policy persuaded by the Centre has yielded no positive results so far .

The truth stands only reconciliation on give and take basis between New Delhi and Srinagar can cement the relations permanently.

The wait for permanent settlement of Kashmiri Pandits seems long one, as very few acknowledge the pain suffered by them.
